TWO KIDNAPPERS KILLED IN IMO POLICE RAID

Two suspected kidnappers were killed while two kidnapped victims were rescued unharmed during a gun duel between security operatives and kidnappers in a forest in Imo State.

The operation followed an intelligence report that prompted police operatives and local vigilantes to mobilise to the forest where the victims were being held.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Ani Iniedu, the security team came under attack from the kidnappers, leading to a gun battle.

He said two of the suspected kidnappers were neutralised, while other members of the gang escaped with gunshot injuries.

“The hoodlums engaged the operatives in a gun duel, resulting in the neutralisation of two kidnappers while others escaped with gunshot injuries,” he said.

The police spokesperson also confirmed that the two kidnapped victims were successfully rescued unharmed.

However, the operation resulted in the death of a vigilante member who sustained a gunshot injury during the encounter and was later confirmed dead at a hospital.

The police said the incident is now being investigated by the State Criminal Investigation Department, Owerri.
