Yobe Police Condemn Killing of Farmers in Boundary Dispute, Hunt for Suspects

The Yobe State Police Command has condemned the killing of two farmers during a violent clash over farmland in Gulani Local Government Area. Two other individuals were injured in the incident, which police say is linked to a lingering boundary dispute between neighboring communities.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the conflict between Zango village in Gulani LGA and Azere village in Gujba LGA has been simmering since last year’s farming season, despite several attempts to settle it through the State Boundary Adjustment Committee.

The deadly attack occurred late at night on August 9, 2025, when the Bara Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call from the Village Head of Zango.

“The attack, sparked by a farmland dispute, resulted in the deaths of Sani Makeri (40) and Abdullahi Maicitta (35), both of Zango village,” Abdulkarim said.

Police reported that the assailants, suspected to be from Azere village, stormed Zango under the cover of darkness. Officers responded swiftly, evacuating the victims and rushing the injured to the Specialist Hospital in Damaturu, where they are currently receiving treatment.

The perpetrators fled before police arrived, but the Command has launched a full-scale manhunt to track them down.

Authorities are urging community leaders to work together to prevent further violence, warning that disputes over farmland should be resolved through lawful and peaceful means.
