Two suspected members of a one-chance robbery syndicate narrowly escaped lynching on Friday at Chicken Junction, Wuse 2, Abuja.

The suspects, who operated with an unmarked taxi, reportedly attempted to dispossess a female passenger of her belongings. One of them allegedly tried to seize her phone and forced her to reveal her bank account PIN under threat. The victim, however, raised an alarm which drew the attention of passersby. This forced the vehicle to a halt, and the suspects were dragged out.

Eyewitnesses said the mob descended on the suspects with sticks and stones as they attempted to flee.

Police operatives later arrived in a Hilux van, rescued the suspects from the mob, and rushed them to the National Hospital for treatment.

Confirming the incident, FCT Police Command spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh said officers responded swiftly to a distress call and found two individuals lying on the ground at the scene. She added that the Commissioner of Police, Ajao S. Adewale, has directed the Divisional Police Officer of Wuse Division to carry out a thorough investigation.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
