Residents of Lakowe’s Orita Adeba and Sangotedo communities were thrown into fear on Saturday following suspected cult clashes that left two young men dead in separate incidents believed to be reprisals.

Sources confirmed on Sunday that the incidents were the latest in a series of cult-related attacks that have claimed several lives across Lagos in recent weeks.

A resident of Lakowe, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, said one of the victims was attacked with machetes and abandoned by the roadside.

According to him, the attackers also severed the victim’s right wrist and fled with it.
He said, *“It is true. It happened yesterday. They left the body at Orita Adeba, opposite the Lakowe Bus Stop. We can no longer sleep at night.

“We heard that he was killed by the Aye cult group. His wrist was cut off completely. They have been attacking each other for weeks now.”*

A short video circulating online showed the deceased, dressed in brown shorts and a white vest with dreadlocks, lying face-up in a pool of blood as onlookers gathered, mourning and taking pictures.

Another resident, identified simply as Fatai, lamented that killings had become frequent in the Ibeju-Lekki axis.
He said, *“They just started killing each other. Just three days ago, my neighbour told me that someone was also butchered here in Lakowe.

“It’s more than three incidents now in a short period. The boy who was killed is also believed to be a cult member. They are using their lives to settle scores.”*

While residents linked the Lakowe killing to cult activities, another young man was also discovered dead by a culvert in the Sangotedo area.

Though the motive was yet to be confirmed, a video shared on social media showed the victim in a white singlet and black trousers lying lifeless by the roadside.

A senior police officer, when contacted on Sunday, said details of the incidents would be made available later in the evening. However, no official statement had been issued as of the time of filing this report.

Only last week, two people were killed in another cult-related clash in Ibeju-Lekki. Images from that incident showed one of the victims with deep machete cuts to the face and severe injuries to the wrist, his body lying beside a blood-soaked motorcycle.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
