UBEC LAUNCHES PLATFORM TO TRACK SCHOOL PROJECTS AND FUNDS
The Universal Basic Education Commission has introduced a digital platform that will allow parents and communities to monitor basic education projects and funds accessed by states.
UBEC Executive Secretary, Dr Aisha Garba, announced this in Abuja during a two-day consultative workshop with chairmen of the 36 State Universal Basic Education Boards and directors of the commission.
The platform, known as the Basic Education Action Plan Management System, is designed to improve transparency, planning and monitoring of education interventions under UBEC’s new 10-year roadmap covering 2026 to 2035.
Garba said the system would provide information on funds received by states and projects being carried out, enabling communities to monitor developments in their schools and hold authorities accountable.
She explained that the platform had been in development for more than a month, with SUBEB chairmen already onboarded ahead of its full deployment in October.
UBEC is also adopting a “whole school approach” under the new roadmap. Rather than funding isolated projects, states will be expected to identify and address the broader needs of individual schools, including classrooms, toilets, fencing, furniture and computers.
Garba said the revised matching-grant formula would also give states greater flexibility to use UBEC funds according to their specific education needs, including school renovation, enrolment materials and additional teachers.
The new 10-year roadmap is expected to officially commence in the first week of October and guide basic education interventions across Nigeria through 2035.
