Habibur Masum, 26, has confessed to the manslaughter of his wife, Kulsuma Akter, who was fatally stabbed while pushing their infant in a stroller through Bradford city centre.

The tragic incident occurred on 6 April 2024, at the intersection of Westgate and Drewton Road.

Akter, 27, suffered multiple stab wounds and later succumbed to her injuries in hospital. Their child was unharmed during the attack.

Appearing in court on Thursday, Masum admitted to possessing a knife but pleaded not guilty to the charge of murder. He is scheduled to face trial for the murder charge on Monday at Bradford Crown Court. Masum has also pleaded not guilty to two counts of assault, one count of making threats to kill, and a stalking charge—offences reportedly committed between November 2023 and April 2024.

According to the prosecution, Masum allegedly traced Akter to a safe house, sent her menacing messages, and lurked outside her residence. The ongoing harassment is said to have left her severely distressed and fearful for her life.

The case has deeply unsettled the local community, with the upcoming trial expected to uncover the full extent of the abuse that preceded the fatal attack.
