The Federal Government has directed the immediate commencement of palliative works on the Lagos–Ota–Abeokuta Road to address critical road failures and improve traffic movement.

Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, issued the directive during an inspection of the federal highway connecting Lagos and Ogun states.

He explained that while a total of about 22 km of the road was assessed, urgent interventions would initially focus on approximately 18 km of the most deteriorated sections.

Umahi added that the government is already managing repairs on about 60 km of the corridor, executing the works in phases according to priority. He attributed the road’s current state to unresolved concession issues and flawed engineering parameters during earlier construction.

The minister stated that repair works would begin immediately, mainly at night, targeting areas that hinder free vehicular movement. Low-lying, failed sections will be reconstructed using concrete to ensure durability.

He noted that the Ota-bound carriageway has suffered more extensive damage compared to the Lagos-bound lane.

Umahi revealed that the second phase of the project would include full resurfacing, replacement of bridge expansion joints, and the installation of solar-powered streetlights.

He also assured that once the repair works are completed, the concessionaire would take over the operation and maintenance of the road.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
