The Yakubu Gowon University has announced that 12,624 students will graduate during its 29th and 30th combined convocation ceremonies.

The Vice-Chancellor, Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, disclosed that the ceremonies, which began on April 10, will conclude on April 18, 2026.

He described the event as significant, noting that it is his first convocation since assuming office.

According to him, 7,158 students will graduate from the 2022/2023 academic session, while 5,466 students will graduate from the 2023/2024 session.

The university will also confer honorary doctorate degrees on distinguished Nigerians, including Yusuff Olaolu Ali, Paul Odili, and Emmanuel Ayuba Iza.

Fawehinmi added that the overall best graduating students from both sets will be offered automatic employment at the university.

The convocation programme includes academic and public engagement activities such as innovation showcases, lectures on drug awareness, climate change, and artificial intelligence in fintech.

He also highlighted the institution’s growth, revealing that student population is nearing 40,000, with projections to reach 50,000 by 2030.

Despite the progress, the Vice-Chancellor noted challenges such as infrastructure deficits, funding constraints, and land encroachment, stressing the need for expansion.

He, however, expressed confidence that with strategic planning and partnerships, the university will continue its path toward becoming a world-class institution.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
