UNN’S NEW VC, ORTUANYA, GETS CALL TO RESTORE ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
Don Urges New UNN Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ortuanya, to Revive University’s Glory
A respected academic, Professor Victor Nnam, has called on the new Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Prof. Simon Ortuanya, to restore the institution’s reputation for academic excellence.
Prof. Ortuanya, who emerged as the 16th Vice Chancellor after beating 27 other contenders, was appointed last Sunday. His selection, according to Nnam, is a product of “merit, competence, and dedication to academic excellence” and offers fresh hope for the university’s future.
In a statement on Saturday, Nnam — a former Enugu State Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development — expressed confidence that Ortuanya’s leadership would boost UNN’s global standing, ensure inclusive growth, and prioritize the welfare of both students and staff.
“His emergence is not only merited but timely. He is a man of immense academic pedigree, leadership experience, and vision,” Nnam said.
He also highlighted the significance of Ortuanya being the first indigene of Nsukka to head UNN, attributing the achievement to Governor Peter Mbah’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for intellectual excellence.
“The governor always supports the aspirations of capable individuals from the state,” Nnam added. “I believe Professor Ortuanya will take UNN to greater heights.”
Before his appointment, Prof. Ortuanya held several academic and administrative roles, most recently serving as the Secretary to the Enugu State Government.
His tenure is expected to usher in a new chapter for UNN, with stakeholders eager to see a revival of the institution’s prestige and academic vibrancy.
