US EMBASSY ISSUES WARNING ON INCREASING VISA FRAUD IN NIGERIA
The United States Embassy in Abuja has cautioned Nigerians about the severe consequences of visa fraud.
In a statement posted on its verified X account on Monday, the Embassy emphasized that providing false information or submitting counterfeit documents can lead to permanent visa bans.
“Visa fraud has serious consequences. Lying or providing fake documents can result in permanent visa bans under US immigration law, meaning you may never obtain a US visa,” the post stated.
The warning coincided with a meeting between US Ambassador Richard Mills and Nigerian Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar, during which they discussed areas of cooperation between the two countries.
The discussions come amid heightened diplomatic attention on Nigeria’s internal security situation. A few months ago, some US lawmakers described attacks on communities, particularly in the North and Middle Belt, as serious violations of religious freedom.
The US Congress also urged stronger collaboration between the US and Nigerian governments to protect vulnerable populations.
