US MEDICAL TEAM PROVIDES FREE SURGERIES ACROSS FIVE DELTA COMMUNITIES
Over 40 medical professionals from the United States have carried out a week-long free medical outreach in five communities across Delta State, offering life-changing surgeries to residents.
The benefiting communities include Osubi, Orerokpe, Eku, Kokori, and Obiaruku.
The outreach, which kicked off on June 7 in Osubi (Okpe Local Government Area), was organized by the NIFER Touch Life Foundation in collaboration with the Delta State Government, Sunshine Care Initiative (USA), and YOU MATTER Charity Foundation.
Spearheaded by acclaimed US-based Consultant Neurosurgeon, Dr. Sandea Harris-Greene, the mission focused on providing critical surgical care to indigent patients suffering from conditions such as goitre, fibroids, hernias, lipomas, and knee issues requiring replacement.
At the launch event in Osubi, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, represented by Hon. Perkins Umukoro, commended the initiative as a key contributor to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, particularly in advancing healthcare access.
Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, represented by Dr. Yinkore Paul of the State Primary Health Development Agency, described the effort as a “remarkable collaboration,” praising the medical team’s professionalism and dedication.
Chairman of Okpe Local Government, Chief Isaiah Esiovwa, noted the impact of the outreach on primary healthcare development and expressed enthusiasm for future partnerships.
Convener and Founder of NIFER Touch Life Foundation, Hon. Mine Jennifer Aragbata-Etuk — also the Special Assistant to the Governor on Diaspora Affairs — expressed gratitude to all partners and stakeholders.
“This initiative goes beyond medical treatment,” she stated. “It’s about restoring dignity, inspiring hope, and reaffirming the value of every Deltan’s life.”
The outreach underscores the potential of international partnerships to deliver quality healthcare to underserved and rural communities.
