UYO TO ACCRA: IBOM AIR SETS DATE FOR FIRST INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT
The Akwa Ibom State Government has announced that the first international flight from the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, to Kotoka International Airport, Accra, Ghana, will take off on May 2, 2026.
Governor Umo Eno disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, following presidential approval for the upgrade of the airport to international status.
According to him, the inaugural flight marks a major milestone in the state’s aviation development and efforts to expand global connectivity.
He said Ibom Air will operate the maiden international flight, with a return trip scheduled for May 3, 2026.
The governor described the development as part of a broader strategy to position Akwa Ibom as a hub for tourism, trade, and investment.
He expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for approving the upgrade of the airport, as well as to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, for his support in achieving the milestone.
Eno also acknowledged past governors of the state for laying the foundation that made the aviation sector’s growth possible.
The state Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, said the development reflects Akwa Ibom’s commitment to strengthening its aviation capacity and improving international access.
He added that the initiative would boost economic opportunities and attract more investment into the state.
The announcement follows earlier inspections by aviation authorities, who had expressed satisfaction with the airport’s readiness for international operations.
