In a strategic push to deepen economic and tourism ties between Nigeria and The Gambia, indigenous carrier ValueJet Airlines has announced the launch of direct flights between Lagos and Banjul, set to commence on May 15, 2025.

The new service, operating twice weekly, will depart from the newly commissioned terminal at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, and arrive at Banjul International Airport. The route aims to bolster regional connectivity across the West African coast, offering fresh opportunities for business, leisure, and cross-border commerce.

Speaking on the development, ValueJet Managing Director, Captain Omololu Majekodunmi, emphasized the significance of the new route in unlocking access to Gambia’s fast-growing tourism sector while reinforcing trade relations between the two nations. “This flight marks an essential air link between two of West Africa’s most vibrant markets,” he said.

The Lagos-Banjul route forms part of ValueJet’s broader strategy to establish a stronger presence across the West African sub-region. The airline says this milestone reflects its commitment to enhancing intra-African connectivity and supporting economic integration through accessible, reliable air travel.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
