VENEZUELAN OPPOSITION LEADER MARíA MACHADO RETURNS AFTER MONTHS IN EXILE
Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado has announced her return to the country after nearly ten months away.
Machado confirmed her arrival in a brief message on X on Sunday: “I am here. With you.”
Her political ally, former presidential candidate Edmundo González, also confirmed that she was back in Venezuela and said he hoped to join her soon.
The Nobel Peace Prize winner left the country in December 2025 and continued her political activities abroad, including from Panama and the United States.
Her return follows reported difficulties arranging a journey home. Details of her route and immediate plans were not disclosed in the initial announcements.
Before returning, Machado had said she wanted to stand alongside Venezuelans, strengthen public organisation and contribute to a democratic transition.
Her arrival marks a significant moment for her supporters as Venezuela faces continuing questions about its political future.
For now, the opposition leader’s short message signals her intention to resume that work from inside the country.
