Emerging reports suggest that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to release Martins Otse, the well-known social media influencer popularly known as VeryDarkMan, on Tuesday.

Sources also revealed to ESSENTIAL NEWS that there are plans to formally arraign him in court on Thursday.

A senior EFCC official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the update on Monday, stating that although Otse remains in custody, formal charges have not yet been filed against him.

ESSENTIAL NEWS earlier reported VeryDarkMan’s (VDM) arrest following his criticism of a commercial bank over alleged unauthorized withdrawals from his mother’s account.

His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the arrest on X, stating that a group of police officers detained VDM along with his friend, C Park.

On Monday, youths in Abuja took to the streets in protest against the arrest.

The demonstrators marched from the EFCC headquarters to the bank in question, carrying placards demanding VDM’s release and raising concerns about possible involvement from President Tinubu.

They denounced the arrest and detention as unlawful, called for transparency, and pledged to take their complaints to the Nigerian Human Rights Commission.
