VERYDARKMAN SAYS EDUCATION IS KEY TO TACKLING TERRORISM IN NIGERIA

Nigerian social critic Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has shared his thoughts on what he believes could help Nigeria overcome its long-standing battle with terrorism. In a video on his official Instagram page on Monday, VDM argued that improving access to education—especially in the northern part of the country—is crucial to resolving the crisis.

According to him, the country’s deepening security challenges are linked to a lack of quality education and opportunities for young people. He claimed that extremist groups often exploit this gap, recruiting vulnerable youths who have limited exposure to formal schooling.

VDM stated that meaningful progress could be achieved if national leaders devote significant time and resources to strengthening education systems in areas where insecurity is most widespread.

“The only solution to terrorism is to educate the Northerners. Any Nigerian leader who spends four years out of eight focusing on education in the North will greatly reduce terrorism,” he said.

He added that education equips young people with knowledge, skills, and opportunities that reduce their vulnerability to manipulation by criminal groups.

“Knowledge is power. Until we prioritise it, Nigeria may continue to face these challenges,” he noted.

VDM also expressed concern about the high number of out-of-school children in some northern states, saying that such conditions make it easier for criminal networks to take advantage of idle youths.

While his comments have sparked conversation online, many Nigerians agree that expanding access to quality education, addressing poverty, and improving governance are essential steps in the fight against insecurity.

As the debate continues, education remains one of the most highlighted long-term solutions for building a safer and more stable Nigeria.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
