Veteran Nigerian journalist, political analyst, and member of The Nation newspaper’s Editorial
Board, Revd. Mobolade Adeboyejo Omonijo, has passed away at the age of 63.
Family sources and church authorities confirmed that the respected media analyst and Anglican cleric, who served as the Vicar of the Church of Pentecost, Dopemu, Lagos, within the Diocese of Lagos West, died on October 15 after a brief illness.
Until his passing, Omonijo was a prominent voice in Nigerian journalism, frequently appearing as a public affairs analyst on TVC’s flagship current affairs program, Journalists’ Hangout, while contributing sharp editorial commentaries to national discourse.
Paying tribute to his late colleague, the Chairman of The Nation Editorial Board, Mr. Sam Omatseye, expressed deep shock over the loss, describing Omonijo as a rigorous and unsparing mind whose intellectual contributions enriched the newspaper's editorial output over the years.
In an official family statement, his relatives expressed appreciation to friends, colleagues, and well-wishers for their prayers and support, adding that detailed arrangements for his funeral rites will be formally communicated in due course.
Tributes have continued to pour in from media practitioners, religious bodies, and political analysts, who remembered Omonijo as a principled writer, dedicated minister of the gospel, and selfless advocate for good governance.
