VICTIMS OF SLAVERY TO BE HONOURED ON AFRICA MEMORIAL DAY IN LAGOS
Lagos Set to Host 2025 Africa Memorial Day with Focus on Healing and Justice.
The Oriental Hotel in Lekki will serve as the venue for this year’s Africa Memorial Day, organized by the Correct Connect Africa Foundation under the theme “Historical Consciousness and Human Justice.” The event aims to foster meaningful dialogue and reflection on Africa’s past while charting a course toward reconciliation and equity.
Bringing together community leaders, youth groups, academics, artists, human rights advocates, and faith-based organizations, the one-day program will feature:
Engaging panel discussions on Africa’s historical legacy
Artistic performances celebrating resilience and cultural pride
Cultural tributes honoring the enduring spirit of resistance
Attendees will examine the lasting impacts of slavery and colonialism, while exploring actionable strategies for collective healing and restorative justice. This gathering highlight Lagos’s role as a hub for pan-African discourse and progressive change.
The Executive Guardian of CCAF, Anthony Odior, described the occasion as a “sacred duty” to awaken memory and demand justice.
“Africa Memorial Day is about remembering the past, but it’s also about demanding justice through historical truth and cultural dignity,” he said.
