In a successful joint military operation on March 18, 2025, troops from the 17 Brigade, in collaboration with the Air Component of Operation Forest Sanity, rescued 84 kidnapping victims from terrorist enclaves in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The rescued individuals include seven males, 23 females, and 54 children. The operation also resulted in the elimination of three terrorists, with some escaping with injuries.

The offensive targeted the hideout of notorious terrorist leader Sanusi Dutsin-Ma at Pauwa Highlands. Security forces conducted coordinated airstrikes on pre-arranged targets, followed by a ground advance that engaged the terrorists at Malori and Matalawa villages.

Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasiru Danmusa, reported that the firefight lasted from approximately 15:09 to 16:30 hours. The operation concluded with the successful rescue of the captives, who received immediate food assistance before being handed over to local authorities for care and reunification with their families.

The Katsina State Government commended the troops for their professional conduct, noting zero casualties on the government side. This operation underscores the administration's commitment to restoring peace and security in the region and supporting security agencies in their fight against criminal elements.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
