WAEC Pauses Access to 2025 WASSCE Results Over System Glitch, Promises Fix Within 24 Hours

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has temporarily suspended access to the 2025 WASSCE results for school candidates due to unexpected technical issues found during an internal review.

In a statement released on Thursday by Moyosola Adesina, the Council’s Acting Head of Public Affairs, WAEC explained that the issue came up after it introduced a new “paper serialization” innovation aimed at fighting exam malpractice.

This new method was applied to key subjects, including Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics.

According to WAEC, while the results were initially released, a post-review process revealed technical bugs affecting the scores in those subjects. As a result, the Council has temporarily disabled access to the online result checker portal to allow for urgent corrections.

“The Council, being a responsive body that is sensitive to fairness and professionalism, has decided to urgently review and correct the technical glitches that led to the situation,” the statement read.

WAEC has apologised to all affected candidates and assured them that the problem is being handled swiftly. Students are advised to check back after 24 hours as efforts are underway to resolve the issue.

“We extend our deep and sincere apologies,” Adesina said. “We appreciate their patience and understanding as we work diligently to resolve this matter with transparency and urgency.”

The Council reiterated its commitment to delivering fair and credible examination outcomes, urging candidates not to panic while the review is completed.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
