WAFCON 2024: ORDEGA CONFIDENT SUPER FALCONS WILL SECURE 10TH TITLE
Francisca Ordega is confident that the Super Falcons possess the talent and determination to clinch a record-breaking tenth Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in 2024.
The reigning champions faced a disappointing performance in the previous tournament, finishing fourth after being dethroned by South Africa’s Banyana Banyana. As preparations intensify for the upcoming WAFCON, set to be hosted by Morocco, Justine Madugu’s squad is focused on reclaiming the championship.
The Super Falcons are scheduled to face Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses in a friendly match at the recently refurbished MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta on Tuesday.
Ordega expressed strong optimism about their chances, emphasizing the team’s hunger for victory.
“Everyone goes into battle wanting to win—no one plans to lose. Other teams are aiming for the trophy, and we must do the same,” said the Al-Shabab defender in a video shared on the Super Falcons’ official X account.
“Some of the younger players haven’t experienced winning a major title yet, but I believe they have a strong fighting spirit. Although we lost the crown to South Africa last time, we are determined to bring it back. It’s vital for the new players to feel that drive too.”
In the 2024 WAFCON finals, the Super Falcons will compete in Group B alongside Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana. All group matches will take place at Casablanca’s Larbi Zaouli stadium.
