WE DIDN’T ABANDON VICTIMS — ABSAA SPEAKS ON ABA BILLBOARD TRAGEDY
The Abia State Advertising and Signage Agency (ABSAA) has revealed that the advertising company responsible for the collapsed billboard that claimed a life in Aba recently has covered the full cost of the victim’s burial.
In a statement, ABSAA's Managing Director and CEO, Mrs. Victoria Dibunma Onwubiko, disclosed that the agency is actively involved in discussions with the state government and the advertising company regarding compensation for those injured and other affected individuals.
Onwubiko dismissed claims that ABSAA abandoned its duties or neglected the victims, stating that the agency has been diligently working behind the scenes. She explained that ABSAA has been in continuous engagement with the owners of the collapsed structure, who have been fully cooperative with both the agency and other relevant authorities.
“So far, they have handled the burial expenses of the deceased and are in advanced talks with the government to ensure compensation for the injured and affected parties,” she said.
She also noted that ABSAA is currently reviewing all billboard structures across Abia State to enforce strict safety compliance. This includes intensified inspections, structural audits, and the removal of unauthorized or unsafe installations.
Onwubiko added that ABSAA personnel were part of the emergency response team that helped rescue and evacuate the injured to the hospital.
“Our top priority remains the safety of lives and property in Abia State,” she emphasized.
She assured the public that a detailed report on the agency’s engagements, ongoing reforms, and measures to ensure justice will be made available in due course.
