WE’LL NOT BACKDATE RESIGNATIONS AFTER OUR LETTER TO INEC – NNPP
The New Nigeria Peoples Party has said it will not alter its records to backdate the resignations of elected officials who allegedly failed to complete the party’s exit procedures.
In a statement on Sunday, the party’s founder and Board of Trustees Chairman, Dr Boniface Aniebonam, alleged that some affected politicians had approached its leaders to regularise their departures retrospectively.
He warned against attempts to pressure officials into changing membership records, insisting that resignation documents must reflect the actual process followed.
The dispute follows an October 19 letter to INEC in which the NNPP challenged the resignation status of Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, 18 House of Representatives members, 28 Kano State lawmakers and two senators elected on its platform in 2023.
The letter, signed by National Chairman Dr Agbo Major and General Secretary Oginni Olaposi, alleged that the officials had moved to other parties without satisfying the NNPP’s constitutional requirements.
Aniebonam said anyone seeking to complete the process should begin at their ward and ensure that the resignation was properly documented.
The party maintained that it would not backdate incomplete records or abandon its position under pressure.
These claims represent the NNPP leadership’s position. The supplied account did not include responses from the affected officials or a determination by INEC on the dispute.
