WERDER BREMEN COACH CRITICISES BONIFACE AFTER 3-0 DEFEAT TO FREIBURG
Werder Bremen head coach Horst Steffen has criticised Nigerian striker Victor Boniface for failing to stick to tactical instructions during their 3-0 Bundesliga defeat to SC Freiburg.
Boniface, making his first home appearance at the Weserstadion, was introduced in the second half with Bremen already trailing 2-0. The 23-year-old Super Eagles forward was unable to spark a comeback, and Freiburg went on to seal the win with a third goal.
Speaking after the game, Steffen highlighted positional indiscipline as a key problem and pointed at Boniface’s performance.
“I felt he was too everywhere. It’s fine for him to be more central. It wasn’t the way I wanted it,” Steffen said via Transfermarkt. “It wasn’t just him, but several players weren’t staying in their spaces. We must be positionally consistent to create attacking overloads.”
Boniface, who joined late in the summer transfer window, has featured only twice for Bremen, totalling just 45 minutes. Steffen urged the striker to be patient as he adapts to the team’s system.
