WEST HAM SHIFT FOCUS FROM ONYEDIKA TO MUKAU IN MIDFIELD HUNT

English Premier League side West Ham United are reportedly set to drop their pursuit of Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika in favour of DR Congo’s Ngal’ayel Mukau.

Onyedika, who joined Club Brugge from Danish outfit Midtjylland three years ago, has been a consistent performer for the Belgian side, earning a regular spot in the starting lineup under various managers.

His impressive displays have drawn attention from several top European clubs. Last year, he was linked with a potential move to AC Milan before the Italian giants opted to sign Youssouf Fofana from Monaco instead.

This transfer window, Onyedika was again linked with a move—this time to West Ham—who are in search of a dependable defensive midfielder. However, despite early speculations, no concrete progress was made.

Manager Graham Potter is keen to strengthen the midfield, and West Ham have been exploring multiple options. According to transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri, the club is now prioritising a move for 20-year-old Mukau, who has been making waves at Lille.

Mukau is known for his close ball control, high energy, and physical presence on the pitch. Valued at €20 million, he fits within West Ham’s budget and profile.

Lille have a solid track record of developing talented midfielders, including Amadou Onana, Renato Sanches, Idrissa Gueye, and Yves Bissouma. West Ham will be hoping Mukau can follow in their footsteps if the deal goes through.

Though Onyedika is no longer a top target, he remains on the club’s radar. Should a move for Mukau fall through, West Ham could revisit their interest in the Nigerian international, who possesses a similar playing style.

In the meantime, Onyedika remains an integral part of Club Brugge’s squad and is expected to play a key role as they aim to reclaim the Belgian Jupiler Pro League title this season.
