WIKE-BACKED PDP FACTION UNVEILS EXCOS IN ONDO
The crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) continues, as a faction loyal to Nyesom Wike has inaugurated its own executive members in Ondo State.
The faction conducted a state congress in Akure, where Olaniyi Ogungbuji emerged as chairman, while Yagba Timilehin was elected secretary.
The exercise was reportedly monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, alongside security agencies including the Department of State Services and the police.
Speaking at the event, Congress Committee Chairman Adebiyi Abiodun-Philips called for unity, urging party members to prioritise collective interests over personal ambitions.
He claimed that internal disputes within the PDP had been resolved and urged aggrieved members, including those who had defected, to return to the party.
In his acceptance speech, Ogungbuji said the new leadership would focus on repositioning the party ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing the importance of unity and mobilisation.
However, the rival faction led by Dupe Aisida rejected the congress, describing it as invalid.
Reacting through its publicity secretary, Wande Ajayi, the group dismissed the exercise as a “charade,” arguing that it lacked proper structure and legitimacy under the party’s constitution.
The development underscores the ongoing leadership tussle within the PDP at both state and national levels.
