WIKE DISMISSES BODE GEORGE’S CRITICISM, SAYS HE HAS DONE MORE FOR PDP
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed recent comments made by Chief Bode George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing him of undermining the party’s interests.
In a media chat on Monday, Wike stated that he has contributed significantly more to the PDP than George, and rejected the notion that the party was solely responsible for his political success.
Responding to Bode George’s claim that the PDP played a major role in shaping his political career, Wike maintained that it is individuals who strengthen political parties, not the other way around. He challenged George to point to any individual the PDP had significantly elevated in Lagos State, asserting that his own efforts had helped keep the PDP influential in Rivers State and nationally.
“If the elder statesman has nothing else to do, he should stay at home and read newspapers,” Wike remarked. “Yes, the PDP gave me a national platform, and I acknowledge that. But it is not the party that makes a person popular — it is the individual who drives the party's success. Since 1999, who in Lagos can Chief George point to as someone the PDP has made?
Meanwhile, I have worked tirelessly to keep the PDP strong in my state and contribute to its relevance at the national level.”
Wike’s comments follow criticism from Chief George, who had previously cautioned him against "biting the hand that fed him." George condemned the recent closure of the PDP National Secretariat by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), describing the move as a betrayal of the party.
