WIKE: I WON’T RECOMMEND COMMISSIONERS, FUBARA HAS A FREE HAND TO GOVERN
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured that he will not interfere in the governance of Rivers State as Governor Siminalayi Fubara resumes office after six months of emergency rule.
Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, Wike dismissed claims that he fueled the political crisis in Rivers earlier this year. He stressed that he has no plans to recommend commissioners or impose political allies on Fubara.
“I cannot go and impose anything on the governor. Why would I impose anything on the governor? I have no candidate, and I will not,” Wike said.
The former Rivers governor noted that if Fubara seeks his counsel, his advice would be for him to govern independently while building on the progress already made in the state. He added that Rivers is now positioned to compete with Lagos in terms of development.
Wike also downplayed concerns over Fubara’s delayed physical resumption at the Government House, insisting there is no law compelling the governor to return immediately.
