The Women in Leadership and Advocacy Network (WILAN) has intensified its campaign for increased female representation in governance and decision-making positions across Nigeria.

At a high-level advocacy forum, WILAN leaders called on political parties and government institutions to adopt affirmative action policies and create more opportunities for competent women leaders. “Women’s voices must be heard at every level of governance for true development,” a WILAN spokesperson said.

The network highlighted statistics showing low female participation in elective and appointive offices and urged stakeholders to address cultural and systemic barriers. WILAN also pledged to provide training and mentorship programmes to prepare more women for leadership roles.

The call has received support from gender advocates and some political leaders who acknowledge the need for more inclusive governance.

WILAN plans to engage with major political parties ahead of future elections to push for concrete commitments on women’s representation.
