Nigerian music superstar Wizkid has made history by becoming the first African artist to reach 9 billion streams on Spotify across all credits, marking a massive milestone in his global career.

The Afrobeats icon achieved this feat thanks to a collection of hit songs and international collaborations that have earned him fans across the world.

Leading the pack is his collaboration with Drake and Kyla, “One Dance,” which alone accounts for a staggering 3.7 billion streams. The chart-topping hit is not only among Spotify’s top 10 most streamed songs of all time, but it also holds a Guinness World Record for being the first single to cross 1 billion streams on the platform.

Wizkid’s most streamed solo track is the global smash hit “Essence” featuring Tems, which has racked up over 303 million streams, further solidifying his position as a pioneer of modern Afrobeats.

While Taylor Swift currently leads the overall Spotify charts with over 1.5 billion monthly streams, Wizkid’s 9-billion milestone cements his place as Africa’s biggest music export and a trailblazer for other artists on the continent.

Fans and fellow musicians have taken to social media to celebrate the achievement, hailing Wizkid’s success as a win for African music on the global stage.
