Nigerian singer Seyi Shay has opened up about her close friendship and mentorship with Afrobeats superstar Wizkid, revealing how he helped shape her understanding of the music industry.

Speaking in a recent interview on The Honest Bunch Podcast, the “Irawo” hitmaker shared heartfelt details about their creative journey together, describing Wizkid as “a genius and a true inspiration.”

Seyi Shay recalled that they worked together on several projects — including her song “Crazy”, one of Wizkid’s own tracks, and even backing vocals for some of his earlier records.

“I did Crazy with Wizkid. I featured him on the song and he featured me on one of his. I also did backing vocals for a couple of his other songs then. We became genuine friends,” she said.

She went on to praise Wizkid’s extraordinary talent and work ethic, revealing how amazed she was by his creative process.

“He’s so smart and talented. I’ve seen him record while eating — that was mad to me! I don’t know where he gets his inspiration from. He’s like a magician, and I’m drawn to people that are inhumanly talented,” she said.

Beyond their musical bond, Seyi Shay shared that Wizkid often offered her valuable industry advice, guiding her through the complexities of fame and entertainment.

“He used to advise me a lot and tell me how people behave in this industry,” she added.
