The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested Paul John, a 24-year-old final-year student of Modibbo Adama University, Yola, for alleged involvement in cybercrimes, including impersonation, sextortion, and cyberstalking.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, Suleiman Nguroje, the suspect was apprehended by operatives of the Commissioner of Police’s Monitoring Unit following credible intelligence reports.

Investigations revealed that John allegedly created several fake social media accounts under names such as Rose YarLele, Procious Favourite, Wange Precious, and Joy Dennis, using stolen images of unsuspecting women without their consent.

The police noted that the suspect uploaded the stolen photos on WhatsApp, TikTok, and Facebook with derogatory captions like “sexy lesbian” and “I am lesbian.” He also reportedly obtained nude images from some victims, which he allegedly used to extort money and demand sexual favours.

In addition, the suspect was accused of advertising some victims for hookup services, thereby damaging their reputation.

Commissioner of Police Dankombo Morris has directed that the case be thoroughly investigated and that the suspect be prosecuted in court. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding the dignity, security, and rights of all residents, both online and offline, while urging social media users to exercise caution when sharing personal pictures and information with strangers.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
