‘YOU HAD NO VISION FOR ANAMBRA’ — TINUBU’S AIDE FIRES BACK AT OBI’S SAINT LUCIA COMMENT
Otega Ogra, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Digital Engagement, Strategy, and New Media, has criticized Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for his recent comments on the President’s visit to Saint Lucia.
Obi had condemned Tinubu for embarking on what he called a "holiday" amid Nigeria’s security and humanitarian challenges, particularly referencing the devastating flood in Niger State, which left over 200 people dead and hundreds missing.
The former Anambra State governor described the President’s timing as “ill-timed and insensitive,” questioning how a leader could choose leisure over visiting a disaster-hit region.
Reacting on social media, Ogra dismissed Obi’s criticism, branding him an ex-governor with no lasting legacy in Anambra after eight years in office. He claimed Obi lacks the geopolitical insight to understand the significance of Tinubu’s Caribbean visit.
“Someone who failed to plan for Anambra’s future and can’t point to a lasting legacy from his administration certainly can’t grasp the importance of this presidential trip. To him, it’s just a ‘holiday.’ But to those who understand geopolitics and Nigeria’s global positioning, it’s a strategic masterstroke,” Ogra posted.
Before Ogra’s response, the presidency had issued an official statement through Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy. The statement explained that President Tinubu’s visit was a historic diplomatic mission aimed at strengthening ancestral and economic ties between Nigeria and Saint Lucia.
