ZAMALEK FIRE JOSE PESEIRO.
Zamalek, the Egyptian football giant, has ended its association with head coach Jose Peseiro following a string of poor results, with the final straw being a 2-2 draw against National Bank.
A statement on the club’s official website read, “Zamalek and Jose Peseiro agree to end the relationship by mutual consent. We wish him the best in future.” Peseiro signed a two-year contract with Zamalek in February, after his time with the Nigerian national team, where he guided them to a second-place finish at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d'Ivoire last year.
The 65-year-old Portuguese coach had been under increasing pressure due to a string of poor results, including failing to defend their CAF Confederation Cup title after a 1-0 aggregate loss to Stellenbosch of South Africa.
Additionally, Zamalek was eliminated from the Egyptian Cup, and their disappointing league form saw them drop to third place, seven points behind Pyramids at the top.
During his 82-day tenure with Zamalek, Peseiro coached 17 matches, with a record of seven wins, eight draws, and two losses.
