ZAMFARA GOVERNOR APPOINTS RETIRED AIG DALIJAN AS CPG COMMANDANT
Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has approved the appointment of retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Muhammad Shehu Dalijan, as the new State Commandant of the Community Protection Guards (CPG).
The Secretary to the State Government, Malam Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, confirmed that the appointment takes immediate effect. He added that the governor has also directed a comprehensive overhaul of the Community Protection Guards to tackle operational and administrative challenges affecting the agency’s efficiency and service delivery.
According to a statement by Suleman Ahmad Tudu, Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Dalijan brings over three decades of experience in policing, security management, and leadership, with proven expertise in community engagement and counter-terrorism operations.
Dalijan previously served as Zamfara State Commissioner of Police from 2023 to 2025 and held several key positions nationwide, including Police Component Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole in the North-East, Deputy Commandant of the Police College Kaduna, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) in Rivers State, and Coordinator of Operation Restore Peace in the South-South. Until his retirement in June 2025, he served as Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Counter-Terrorism at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Governor Lawal expressed confidence that Dalijan’s deep understanding of Zamfara’s security landscape would strengthen the Community Protection Guards and enhance their ability to fulfill their mandate in line with the state government’s rescue agenda.
The governor also commended the outgoing commandant for his service, wished him a speedy recovery, and assured him of the government’s continued support.
